If you want to maintain your smile-alignment results, it’s extremely important that you take care of your teeth, gums, and oral health once your braces have been removed. If you don’t take proper care of your smile, your teeth will be sensitive, unattractive, and unhealthy. So, to help you keep your smile in tip-top shape after your braces have been removed, our McCord Orthodontics team recommends doing the following things:

-Wear your retainer as suggested. If you fail to wear your retainer at the proper times, your teeth will slowly shift back into their original positions, returning you to the not-so-aligned smile you despised before treatment.

-Wait about one month before brightening your smile with bleaching or whitening treatment. Waiting will give your sensitive enamel time to strengthen itself.

-Delay eating crunchy or chewy foods. If you eat these products right away, your teeth will begin to hurt because they are still sensitive from the braces. Do your best to ease into eating these foods.

-Schedule a dental cleaning with your dentist. It is highly likely that there are areas in your smile that were neglected during your orthodontic treatment. If you get a deep teeth-cleaning treatment, those areas will be cleaned and your smile will remain in good condition.

If you use these tips, you will be on the right track toward a strong, successful, and beautiful smile.
