Braces can be quite inconvenient at times, especially when they trap food particles and cause bad breath. However, this doesn’t have to be the case for you. To help you fight bad breath, Dr. Layne K McCord & Matt McCoy has some helpful tips that can give you the pristine breath you deserve!

First, take advantage of oral hygiene. Brush and floss your teeth after each time you eat. This can be helpful because it’s common to get food stuck in your braces. When this happens, the food oftentimes releases an odor, resulting in poor breath. When you brush and floss this food away, you can have fresher breath! For even better results, you can rinse your mouth with mouthwash.

Second, clean your tongue. Whether you believe it or not, your tongue traps countless amounts of bacteria. This can definitely cause bad breath. If you clean your tongue each time you brush or randomly with a tongue scraper, you can wash the bacteria away and improve your breath.

Third, receive professional dental cleanings twice a year. Your routine cleanings and checkups are vital because they can help you wash the stuck-on plaque and food particles that cling to the braces hardware and teeth. These substances promote and create bad breath regularly.
