If you suffer from an improper bite, you may be a victim of malocclusion. Malocclusion in Idaho Falls, Idaho, is a common dental problem that can be fixed with orthodontic treatment. If you suffer from any of the following bite problems, we recommend calling McCord Orthodontics and scheduling an appointment with your orthodontist:

Open bite
An open bite involves an anterior opening between your upper and lower teeth. Generally, when your back teeth bite down, there will be a space between your upper and lower front teeth because they can’t touch together. This issue can be due to thumb sucking and tongue thrusting.

An overbite involves the vertical overlapping of the upper teeth over the lower teeth. The upper teeth will slide over the lower teeth and will cover them, making it look like you have no lower teeth at all. This issue is caused by genetics or a misaligned jaw. It can also be caused by daily habits, like eraser chewing and nail biting.

An overjet involves the horizontal projection of the upper teeth beyond the lower teeth. This issue is due to a large upper jaw, a small lower jaw, or a combination of the two.

A crossbite is when the top front teeth bite inside the lower front teeth. This can occur with the front or back teeth. Generally, this problem is due to genetics, prolonged thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, misaligned teeth, or missing teeth.
