If you’re a teen who wants a strong, attractive smile, there are some things you need to do in order to achieve those goals. Along with keeping up on oral hygiene and attending your six month checkups, our McCord Orthodontics team recommends that you consider doing the following things:

Align your teeth with orthodontics
If you decide to align your crooked, unattractive teeth, you’ll finally have the smile of your dreams and you’ll no longer feel ashamed and embarrassed of your appearance. Having a straight smile can also improve your oral health because crooked teeth tend to create nooks in your mouth, and those nooks harbor bacteria and plaque. Those areas are also very difficult to clean, which presents a problem. If you don’t clean the harmful substances from your smile each day, you could become victim to tooth decay and gum disease.

Avoid tobacco products
Tobacco use is not only harmful for your entire health, but it is also harmful for your smile. Smoking can stain your teeth and tongue, dull your sense of taste and smell, and create gum disease and oral cancer. The best thing you can do for your oral health is avoid tobacco products at all costs.
