As you may already know, candy is very harmful to your teeth and to your braces. So, if you are aligning your smile, we strongly recommend that you avoid eating candy as much as possible, especially these candies:

Caramel
Caramel is a candy that does not mix well with braces, especially because it is extremely sticky. When you eat the caramel, it can easily get stuck between your teeth, gums, and brackets, making it very difficult to properly clean your mouth. Therefore, if you can’t clean your smile and eliminate every piece of caramel, your chompers are completely vulnerable to tooth decay, and cavities are a huge dental problem you want to avoid at all costs.

Salt Water Taffy
Salt water taffy is another treat that is extremely sticky, which is why it is so harmful for your braces. However, it is also harmful for your teeth. Not only will it break your brackets, but it will also create tooth decay in your smile. So, for a strong oral health and orthodontic appliance, please do not eat salt water taffy when you have braces.

Popcorn
The kernels in the popcorn are what make the treat so dangerous. When you eat the popcorn, the kernels tend to lodge themselves between the brackets and teeth, causing major discomfort and additional complications. The kernels can also severely damage the appliance by breaking the brackets off of your teeth. These are the reasons why we ask you to avoid eating popcorn.

Our team at McCord Orthodontics wants you to have the best smile and oral health, which is only possible if you avoid eating these foods.
